| Complete Grand piano rebuilds can run from about $4500 or more, depending on condition, work done, current cost of parts, brand of piano, size and various options throughout the process. Average estimates generally run about $3900 for uprights and around $5300 for most grands up to 6'. These are prices for total rebuilds & refinish. For additional restorative work on actions or case, costs will be higher. A detailed estimate will be made before any work is done or the piano is moved to the shop. Repair work on a smaller scale can also be done on any piano. Prices vary according to transportation costs, in home repair and other variables. PLEASE CALL FOR AN IMMEDIATE OVER-THE-PHONE ESTIMATE. A final tear-down estimate will provide a firm price. Some damage can be hidden and is revealed only after the piano is taken apart and inspected. This is usually not a large change if any. REFINISHING Our refinisher has over 35 years full time experience with fine funiture, pianos, antiques and restoration. I work closely with the workers and supervise color, quality and repair quality to insure the very best for your instrument A DISCUSSION OF PRICE & VALUE Options for the piano buyer include: A. Purchase new or rebuilt professional grade piano. B. Rebuild or restore older upright or grand. C. Buy a temporary entry level piano. Three Opinions A. From a musical point of view it is ALWAYS better to purchase a quality instrument new or rebuilt such as Kawai, Yamaha, Steinway, Baldwin etc. Value is conserved in these instruments. B. If, on the other hand, you have or can get a good quality older instrument and rebuild or restore it, you may have a family treasure that will be passed to the next generation. If the work is done well and you were told the truth about, it should do very well for a student until they are successful in piano and then they can purchase their own. C. From a practical point of view, purchase a used piano of moderate price that has been certified by a qualified technician to be free of defects that would cause it to be unsuitable for a student or musical purposes. Then if the time comes when the student has earned a quality instrument, look for a professional grade instrument. You will be able to sell the other piano for about what you paid, assuming that you did not pay too much or the piano did not have hidden defects. QUESTIONS?
